Which dress be appropriate for hubby’s military ball ( my first ball as a civilian)?

When I was in the military I remember being jealous that the civilian women could dress in formal dresses. Well, now that I am a civilian again, I am still an Army wife, and this will be my first ball as a civilian. I have a very curvy figure (36-24.5-36) even after having a child, so I like to wear things that show off my small waistline. I also want to keep in mind that the dress has to be classy and not make me look like I am fresh off the boulevard!! Please be honest in your opinion!!
